Update in Internal Medicine

Each year the Department of Medicine hosts the Update in Internal Medicine: Evidence Based Approaches to Common Medical Problems course. This two-day post-graduate course provides cost effective continuing education credits on current topics for general internists, family practitioners, medical specialists, and other health care professionals throughout Western Pennsylvania and beyond. The course is a comprehensive update on major advances in internal medicine as well as a review of various medical and surgical related topics affecting daily practice.

Since 2001, we have averaged 321 attendees. In 2015, there were 336 attendees, which was near our all-time high of 400 attendees in 2010!

The 2016 Update in Internal Medicine course will be held on October 13-14 at the Marriott Pittsburgh City Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. Our topics this year will include:

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and designates AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s) commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in the course. New this year, participants will receive ABIM MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits earned. Other health care professionals are awarded continuing education units based on the contact hours. Each year, applications are submitted to the American Academy of Family Physicians for CME credit and to the American Osteopathic Association for Category 2-A credit.
