Our basic, translational, and clinical research programs maintain a tradition of excellence and continue to grow. Our Department is ranked in the top 10 nationally in NIH funding among Departments of Internal Medicine. Our research support has grown more than five fold in the last ten years. Currently, 70% of our funding is federally sponsored, 14% comes from industry sponsors, and 16% from other sources, including society, foundations, and other state and local agencies.
The strength of our research environment and our investigators has recently been recognized by the award of new large program project and multicenter grants, new T32 training awards, and an outstanding record of securing individual awards and research awards for trainees. In addition, our faculty are active in scientific leadership positions serving as journal reviewers and editors, leaders of national organizations, and on NIH and foundation study sections.
Our Department's perennial success is a testament to the University of Pittsburgh's outstanding research environment and culture of productive collaboration, which offers our physicians and scientists nearly limitless opportunities.
