Research Interest
Dr. Bump's research focuses on medical education of patient safety and quality improvement.
Clinical Interest
Dr. Bump is a practicing general internal medicine physician and the Medical Director of the UPMC General Internal Medicine–South clinic in the West Mifflin/South Hills area of Pittsburgh. Dr. Bump provides care for patients ranging from late adolescence to senior citizens. Dr. Bump cares for common medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease and liver disease. Dr. Bump is also experienced with musculoskeletal conditions as well as seeing patients whose illnesses have not yet been diagnosed.
Educational Interest
Dr. Bump takes pride in educating the next generation of doctors. Dr. Bump teaches medical students as well as residents and fellows. During his time at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC he has taken greater leadership roles. Dr. Bump was previously the Director for Patient Safety and Quality Improvement for Graduate Medical Education. Beginning in 2019 he became the associate dean for graduate medical education and Designated Institutional Official (DIO). In this capacity Dr. Bump oversees the educational experience of all ACGME accredited residencies and fellowships at UPMC. This includes oversight of more than 130 residency and fellowship programs educating more than 1600 residents and fellows. Dr. Bump is actively engaged in promoting excellence in education for trainees throughout the UPMC system. He is very dedicated to training the next generation of physicians.
